Abstract:

The Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS) is a comprehensive functional skills assessment that can be modified by mixing and matching any of 6 different assessment protocols to create an individualized assessment that focuses on the current needs of the learner. Why the assessment came into existence; how parents, teachers, and professionals such as BCBAs can use the assessment; how the assessment is scored; and how to choose programs based on the results will be discussed.

Objectives:

  1. Attendees will be able to state where functional skills are assessed
  2. Attendees will be able to describe when to assess functional skills
  3. Attendees will be able to score the AFLS
  4. Attendees will be able to choose appropriate functional skills to teach

FAQ

I have a scheduling conflict. Can I still sign up? 
Yes! Simply register for the event as usual. Following the event, all registered email addresses will be sent an email with the video recording and accompanying CEU quiz. Watch the video recording and take the quiz included in this follow-up email to earn CEUs. You may re-watch the video recording as often as you like.

I registered and it's time for the event. Now what?
In the 10-15 minutes before the event, the upper right-hand corner of this page will change from "It's Not Time to Join" to "It's Time to Join". Enter your email and the unique meeting password from the workshop receipt email you received when you signed up. The video player will open and begin streaming the event. Use the 'Live Chat' on the right of the player to chat with other participants during the presentation. Use the 'Ask the Presenter a Question' box below the player to submit a question to the presenter.

What type of continuing education is this?

How do I earn my CEUs after the event? 
For live viewers, immediately upon the conclusion of the event, a yellow "Quiz" button will appear in the upper right-hand corner of your browser, linking to your individual quiz URL. Registrants who did not attend live should access their individualized quiz link in the follow-up email sent after the event. Once the quiz has been completed with a percentage correct of 80% or higher, your CEU certificate will be automatically generated. Download and save a copy of the CEU certificate to your computer, and don't forget to submit the details of your attendance in the BACB Gateway.

Will I receive a copy of the presenter's PowerPoint slides and/or other material related to the presentation?
If the presenter provided supplemental materials, there will be a green "Materials" button will be in the upper right hand corner of your browser window during the presentation. Click this button to begin a download of the materials to your computer. Registrants that did not attend live will receive a link via email to download the materials. Please note, presenters reserve the right to omit proprietary materials per their discretion.

Presenter Bio: Michael M. Mueller, PhD, BCBA-D

Michael M. Mueller, PhD, BCBA-D is the co-founder of Southern Behavioral Group and co-owner of Stimulus Publications. Mike has practiced Applied Behavior Analysis with children with autism in their homes, schools, state residential facilities, group homes, clinics, and other community settings. He has delivered more than 100 conference presentations both nationally and internationally. Dr. Mueller’s research includes parent and teacher training, functional analysis in school settings, pediatric feeding disorders, compliance training, discrete trial and errorless learning, increasing communication and functional skill repertoires in learners of all ages, and in reducing severe behavioral challenges in school settings. Dr. Mueller has more than 20 published research papers and 7 book chapters. He is the author of 10 books, including, The Assessment of Functional Living Skills,The BIG Book of ABA Programs, and Behavior Analytic Consultation to Schools. His research has been published in many prestigious school psychology and applied behavior analysis journals. Dr. Mueller is a Past President of the Georgia Association for Behavior Analysis and a Past Chair of the Behavioral School Psychology Interest Group of the National Association of School Psychologists. He also developed The Autism Skill Acquisition Program™ (ASAP), a complete ABA-based teaching program for children with autism.
