Abstract

This presentation is part of the ABA Subspecialty Series: Diversity in Practice. This nine-part series was developed to provide general awareness and education on the many different applications of Applied Behavior Analysis and the industry-specific niches consequently derived from these applications. For each area, one of its foremost experts will cover topics such as origins of the subspecialty area, seminal publications in the area, specific types of problems behavior analysts address within the area, how the treatment approach varies from alternative methods. This series is intended as a helpful resource for all individuals interested in the science of Applied Behavior Analysis, from undergraduates just embarking on their studies to professionals well established in the field.


Presenter Bio: Jane Howard, PhD, BCBA-D

Jane Howard, Ph.D., is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D®) and a licensed psychologist. She currently serves as Chief Executive Officer at Therapeutic Pathways and The Behavior Center.  Based in California, these organizations provide behavior analytic treatment to pediatric,  adolescent, and adult populations diagnosed with autism.  Dr. Howard is also Professor Emeritus (Psychology) at California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, California, where she taught graduate courses in behavior analysis and child clinical psychology.

Dr. Howard is the lead author on various treatment studies for autism.  Her research been published in peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, The Analysis of Verbal Behavior, Research in Developmental Disabilities, and Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders.  She co-authored the textbook Human Behavior: Analysis and Application with Ellen Reese. In addition, Dr. Howard has made numerous presentations at national and international conferences.

She currently serves on the Board of the Council of Autism Service Providers and has served on the Board of Directors for the California Association for Behavior Analysis. She also is Past President of the Board of Directors of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
