This presentation is part of the ABA Subspecialty Series: Diversity in Practice. This nine-part series was developed to provide general awareness and education on the many different applications of Applied Behavior Analysis and the industry-specific niches consequently derived from these applications. For each area, one of its foremost experts will cover topics such as origins of the subspecialty area, seminal publications in the area, specific types of problems behavior analysts address within the area, how the treatment approach varies from alternative methods. This series is intended as a helpful resource for all individuals interested in the science of Applied Behavior Analysis, from undergraduates just embarking on their studies to professionals well established in the field.

Presenter Bio: William Heward, Ed.D., BCBA-D

William L. Heward, Ed.D., BCBA-D, is Professor Emeritus in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. Bill has been a Fulbright Scholar in Portugal, Visiting Professor of Psychology at Keio University in Tokyo and at the University of São Paulo, and Visiting Scholar at the National Institute of Education in Singapore. His publications include the books, Applied Behavior Analysis (with John Cooper and Tim Heron), Sign here: A Contracting Book for Children and Their Parents (with Jill Dardig), and Exceptional Children: An Introduction to Special Education, each of which has been translated into several foreign languages. Awards recognizing Dr. Heward’s contributions to behavior analysis include the Fred S. Keller Behavioral Education Award from the American Psychological Association's Division 25, the Ellen P. Reese Award for Communication of Behavioral Concepts from the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies, and the Distinguished Psychology Department Alumnus Award from Western Michigan University. A Past President and Fellow of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), Bill served as program chair for ABAI’s Behavior Change for a Sustainable World Conference.
